Leadership Crisis

In 2007, Infosys realized that the company was faced with a leadership crisis. In the midst of unprecedented growth, people were being rushed into jobs for which they were unprepared. According to Nandita Gurjar (Gurjar), senior vice-president and group head of human resources at Infosys, many Indian organizations were facing a similar crisis. She added that the immediate promotion of employees to higher positions before their actual time line of promotion or appraisal was because of the exponential development of the company. The result of such promotions was that the employees found themselves out of their depth. Though they had the authority, they lacked the necessary skills, experience, and confidence and so were not able to be true leaders...

Infosys's Leadership Development Model

To address the issue of leadership, a planned process based on the values and cultures of Infosys was designed as far back as 2001. According to Kris, leadership development at Infosys was meant to take the company to the next level of growth. Leadership development at Infosys had three implications. The first implication was that growth should happen at all levels of the business and organization, not just at the top level. The second implication was that the growth should stem from a vision that was common across the organization. The vision of Infosys was to create an organization 'built to last', and that had the agility to manage ambiguity and uncertainty under all circumstances .
